Mallorca
Balearic Islands, SpainAbout Mallorca
Mallorca is the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, in the western Mediterranean. The island combines dramatic mountains, fertile plains, traditional villages and a coastline of sandy beaches, rocky headlands and secluded coves.
The Serra de Tramuntana runs along the northwest coast and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. Villages such as Valldemossa, Deià and Fornalutx are known for stone houses, terraced hillsides and centuries-old olive groves. The central plain, Es Pla, is home to vineyards, almond orchards and historic market towns. Palma, the capital, has a historic quarter with the Royal Palace of La Almudaina and La Seu Cathedral overlooking the sea. Local markets, fishing harbours, walking and cycling routes and archaeological sites thousands of years old complete the picture.
